FEM analysis of radial-axial profile ring rolling process

Authors:   Zhengkun Feng, Henri Champliaud

Abstract

Profile radial-axial ring rolling is widely used for producing critical structural components in many industries. This complex bulk forming process is characterized by high nonlinearity, unsteady three- dimensional deformation and dynamic contact boundary conditions caused by the rotations of ring and rolls. In this paper, a numerical model based on finite element approach with non-uniform mesh of mixed cubic and tetrahedral elements is proposed to simulate and analyze the process. A large expanded ring with T-profile section has been obtained by numerical simulations.
