SCOPE AND GOALS The complexity of real-world systems (including industrial, supply chain, logistic, health care systems, etc.), their dynamic changing behaviour continue to challenge researchers and practitioners in different areas and application domains. Usually complex systems are characterized by a number of interacting entities and stochastic factors that dynamically evolve during the lifecycle of a real-world system. Engineers and Managers usually take complex decisions in short time without the possibility to predict all the consequences of their actions. They should be able to take into account the system behaviour as a whole, delete any restrictive assumptions and focus their efforts on results applicability (the results of the decision process should be easily and effectively transferred to the real system). It is widely recognised that simulation is a very powerful methodology for supporting decision problems within those systems whose high complexity, owing to the relationships linking the variables involved and the random nature of those variables, prohibits the use of analytical methods and models unless they are extremely simplified. Modeling & Simulation methodologies and techniques always provide advanced tool for choosing correctly, understanding why, exploring possibilities, diagnosing problems and transferring scientific results to real systems. In addition, Modeling & Simulation usually provide innovative solutions and new user-friendly tools, with special attention to integration into industry and supply chain business processes and management.
The Special Issue on Modeling & Applied Simulation: Advanced Methodologies and Techniques aims at providing the opportunity for authors to submit original and unpublished articles in different application domains of Modeling and Simulation. Authors are kindly invited to include in their papers all the research works, case studies and application both theoretical and applied.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to: Agent Directed Simulation Distributed and Parallel Simulation Simulation and Artificial Intelligence Petri Nets and DEVS Modelling & Simulation Simulation Software and Optimization Tools Soft Computing and Modelling & Simulation Discrete and Combined Simulation Agent and Service based on Modeling & Simulation Virtual Reality and Visualization Simulation based Optimization Decision Support Systems Applications Simulation in Healthcare Industrial Processes Modelling & Simulation Modelling & Simulation in Business Management Inventory Management Simulation Automation Logistics & Manufacturing Modeling & Simulation in Logistics, Traffic and Transportation Multimodal transports Emergency Simulation Supply Chain Risk & Vulnerability Maritime Training Automation Effects at Seaport Container Terminals Emergency Planning and Management
Note: The IJSPM Special issue on Industry and Supply Chain: Technical, Economic and Environmental Sustainability is based on collection of best papers submitted and presented at the international multi-conference I3M 2009. Authors intending to submit an article to this Special Issue should submit their camera ready papers to the multi-conference I3M 2009 (including EMSS 2009, MAS 2009, HMS 2009).
SUBMISSION The submission process for the Journal Special Issue will start after the selection of the high quality papers of the I3M multi-conference. Authors of the selected papers will be notified and requested to extend and improve their papers for journal publication. The submission process is completely online using the IJSPM submission system.
IMPORTANT DATES The following are important dates for Submission, Notification of Acceptance/Rejection, Final Camera-ready version of the paper. (These dates are only for camera ready papers processed through the I3M 2009 review and submission process. Contributions submitted for the Special Issue without going through the I3M 2009 process will not be considered).
Best papers selection and notification to authors: November 1, 2009 Submission of the articles for review: December 10, 2009 Acceptance/Rejection notification: March 1, 2010 Final Camera-ready version: April 1, 2010 |
