Track Description

This track focuses on the design and testing of dedicated hardware by including these in real-time simulations. Before a system can be implemented in a commercial environment, extensive tests need to be conducted on some sort of prototype system. However, this is often an expensive and time consuming exercise. However, the introduction of powerful computers have made it possible to perform tests relatively cheap and fast by using Hardware in the Loop (HIL) simulation. Using HIL simulation, system studies can be performed by integrating real time simulations and the hardware being prototyped. Therefore it is not necessary to have the entire system under consideration in hardware. An example of HIL simulation is a generator-set including its control which is connected to a power amplifier driven by a virtual grid modeled in software that runs in real-time on a dedicated computer.

This track aims to bring together researchers from academia and industry in order to stimulate collaboration and to exchange ideas. Therefore papers are invited in the area of HIL prototyping where topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Topics of interest

· Real-time simulations

· Hardware and software developed for HIL simulation

· Approaches in model accuracy/complexity vs. computational speed

· Distributed HIL simulation for complex systems (e.g. cloud computing)

· Computer-Real World interface issues and solutions

· Application areas for HIL prototyping (e.g. power system protection relays, automotive applications and unmanned undersea vehicles)

· Application area specific standardization of HIL prototyping

Nevertheless different topics concerning “Prototyping complex systems using Hardware In the Loop (HIL) Simulations” are welcome. Authors are kindly invited to include in their papers and presentations all the research works, case studies and application both theoretical and applied.

Key Dates

Submissions of Extended Abstracts: April 12, 2010

Notification of acceptance: May 10, 2010

Final Camera-Ready Submission and Early Registration: June 10, 2010

Authors' Guidelines (further information author’s instruction section)

FIRST SUBMISSION

Eextended abstracts (minimum 2 pages), full draft papers or other proposals should be submitted for the review process through the submission section by April 12, 2010.

The extended abstract or the full draft paper must contain title, authors, affiliations, addresses, main body and references.

Each extended abstract or full draft paper will be reviewed by at least two members of the International Program Committee taking into consideration scientific quality, originality and relevance. Only original papers, written in English will be accepted.

The extended abstract or the full draft paper should be prepared by following the final paper formatting. However any type of paper formatting can be accepted for the first submission.

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE

Notification of acceptance will be sent by May 10, 2010.

CAMERA READY PAPER SUBMISSION

The International Program Committee will accept two types of camera ready papers: extended paper (10 pages, 2 columns); regular paper (6 pages, 2 columns) both for regular and special sessions.

The camera ready paper must adhere to the conference template. The .dot file contains the complete instructions for preparing a camera ready copy for the Proceedings. The final version of the paper must be a PDF file.

Your camera ready paper (extended paper or regular paper) in PDF format must be submitted by using the submission section before the 10th of June 2010.

The page limit for manuscripts is ten (10) pages (included  in the author registration fee). Additional pages will require an additional fee.

If your work must be cleared or approved before publication by  your institution, company, or governmental agency, please be sure that  process will be completed by the due date above or we will not be able to include it in the CD Conference Proceedings.
