SIMULATION-BASED VALIDATION OF PRODUCTION CONTROL DECISIONS, SUBJECT TO     RESOURCE AVAILABILITY, András Pfeiffer,  Botond Kádár, László Monostori

The paper tackles the problem of managing uncertainties during the execution of predictive schedules in a dynamic environment. The dynamic environment in question is represented by a simulation model – connected to a production scheduler system – with flexible modelling capabilities. The paper addresses the simulation module of the

proposed architecture highlighting its main functionalities and advantages, compared to former simulation-based solutions. By applying the proposed architecture (using both the proactive and reactive operation modes), the solution methods for stability-oriented rescheduling can be profoundly tested and analyzed. The evaluation of selected scenarios of the timing of rescheduling, rescheduling threshold and human resource management techniques are presented through an industrial case-study.

TIME AND ERGONOMIC ANALYSIS IN A HAND-CRAFTEFD MANUFACTURING PROCESS, G. Mirabelli

The present work describes a research study developed in cooperation with a small manufacturing company operating in leather goods production sector, concerning time and ergonomic analysis of some workplaces by using a simulation based approach.

The results obtained, in terms of time and ergonomic analysis, are very interesting and effective, and can be used for increasing the efficiency of the manufacturing process.

THE RELEVANCY OF MOVES DEFINITION IN THE SIMULATION-BASED OPTIMIZATION OF MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS, Pasquale Legato, Roberto Trunfio, Francesco Mari

This paper discusses how optimization uses simulation to design new manufacturing systems and to improve the performance of existing ones. We present an overview of discrete- event simulation-based optimization. In particular, we focus on those techniques that select new system configurations changing the values of key variables. We propose a structure to adopt designing new simulation optimization frameworks to allow advanced selection of system configurations. A comprehensive example of the performance optimization of a production line will be given to show the effect of the use of advanced selection rules.

SIMULATION AS DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR MANAGING POWER PLANTS POOL MAINTENANCE, Agostino Bruzzone, Chiara Briano, Enrico Briano

This work is focusing on advanced techniques, including artificial intelligence, applied on a simulation model used as a DSS for supporting management and decision making in complex planning of maintenance for power plants pool.

CONCURRENT EVALUATION OF MANUFACTURING COST IN PRODUCT DESIGN AND SIMULATION, Stefano Moroni, Francesco Bianconi, Paolo Conti

This paper describes an approach for comparative evaluation of manufacturing cost in the early stage of the design process of products and assemblies. The methodological

approach used here refers to Design For Manufacturing and Assembly technique (DFMA) and is addressed towards the development of optimized design solutions.
